JLG Architects
The signing of the Declaration of Independence. The first moon walk. The invention of the rumble strip. While there weren't any JLGers in attendance at any of those great moments in history, we were there for a whole bunch of our own. Check them out. The heavens opened, the angels sang, and Lonnie and Gary sat down for their first day of work at JLG Architects (which was called Johnson & Laffen Architects back then).

Even then, technology was an important part of the JLG culture; in fact, we were one of the first architecture firms in the country to use computers - the appropriately-named RISC 1000 - for drafting. Their first project: a gazebo for the historic Myra Museum, which would go on to win an AIA design award the following year. We are constantly recharged by our young professionals.

You guys are really cool and have such amazing energy. You're quickly changing us into a better company. I really believe that your generation is going to solve the world's problems through your compassion, caring and commitment to solving social problems.

Design For Life
Report
On a wintery day in 1989, Gary Johnson and Lonnie Laffen put pen to paper and drew thousands of people to the Grand Forks County Historical Society.
On blueprint, it looked like a pavilion.
But in person, it was a catalyst for growth and connectivity: a landmark for the county to gather for ice cream socials, band concerts, weddings and, of course, to be a part of history.
Over the next three decades, JLG also grew: from a start-up to a legacy ESOP to one of MSN Money's 50 Most Admired Companies in the U.S. Today, JLG's 160 employee-owners across our 11 offices approach architecture in the same way we do the design of our company - to stand the test of time.
People
Report
For 31 years, JLG has worked hard to make life better for our families, co-workers, clients, and communities.
From what was once a two-person design studio by Gary Johnson and Lonnie Laffen has grown to become the fastest growing architecture firm in America, according to Inc. Magazine.
We have had the great honor to work with thousands of the most engaged and frankly, totally awesome, clients and communities in the Midwest, including 60 college campuses and some of the largest healthcare providers in the world.
JLGives Back
Report
We are really, really lucky.
For nearly three decades, we have had the good fortune to work with and for the best people, on the best projects, in the best communities.
And we believe it's our responsibility to share the love.
So, while we put our heart and soul into everything we do at JLG - when an organization needs our time, money, or our JLGness outside what is expected in our "normal" day-to-day roles, JLGives back.
If design is our soul, our philanthropic program, JLGives Back, is our heart.
Careers
Report
We know that it takes more than just bricks and mortar to build a community.
It takes passionate local stewardship, progressive leaders, and designers who understand how to turn a small idea into a big future.
For over 31 years, our 150 JLGers have raised the bar on what is expected from architecture in North Dakota, Minnesota and South Dakota so that we can continuously improve the quality of life of our clients, our neighbors, and our families, while remaining dedicated to our clients' bottom lines, today, tomorrow and for the next generation to come.
JLGdna
Report
There's no "I" in JLG; but there is a "We" in Awesome.
In recognizing the soul (and future) of our company is in the hands of our young professionals, JLG created JLGdna - a totally unique training, mentorship, and social program for all of our emerging leaders.
Within DNA, JLGers learn, develop, and grow in a collaborative program that supports and celebrates their individual strengths and dreams.
Forbes magazine has featured JLGdna, stating the platform "has been remarkably successful over the past seven years, shaving more than a year off of the national average for licensure and enjoying a 80+% retention rate of individuals who have moved through this program, with direct colleagiate recruiting now scaled across a five-state area."
