Founding Principal
Since founding HMH in 1989, Harvey has overseen the design of 500+ projects. Growing up in Vienna, Austriaa city steeped in traditional and modern architecturehis heritage drives the firms bold ideas and unconventional approach. Harvey teases retirement but stays involved in every project. When not contemplating architecture, youll find him making jewelry or crushing black diamonds on the slopes.
Leah Civiok
Design Director, Principal Interior Designer
The best gift Leah ever got was a Barbie Dreamhouse. That house, paired with her dads real estate career, inspired her passion for design and creative problem solving. This SCAD Alum honed her skills working in the Big Apple, before making her way to Colorado to join HMH. Leah is a design savant and expert relationship builder a true Aries. On weekends, find her hiking or camping with her husband and their cute pup.
Kristin Nothwehr
Principal Architect
Kristin approaches architecture from a love of craftsmanship and a drive to understand how things are made. Originally from Iowa, she studied architecture at Yale and spent many years practicing in NYC before landing in Colorado. Turns out her background vibed with HMH, and her disposition vibed with Colorado. Off the clock, youll find her in the mountains rock climbing or hanging with her husband and kids.
Lauren Folkerts
Principal Architect
With years of architectural experience, Lauren brings bold, thoughtful design to every project, pushing her skills in sustainability and code. Along the way, she honed her craft in fabrication studios, building with glass, steel, and concrete. Her passion for advocacy culminated in a four-year term on Boulders City Council. When shes not working, youll find her exploring and soaking up inspiration, van-life style.
Stephanie Bingham
Marketing / Operatioins
Stephanie is consumed with a passion for blending beauty with business. Her skills and experience let her handle the firms marketing while coordinating the day-to-day of bright-eyed designers. She even gets to do it in her hometown of Bouldershe went to Boulder High, right down the street from the HMH office. Weekends are for her pup, partner-in-crime, family, and soaking up mountain life.

When we bought our home in Louisville in December 2020, we knew that we had a big project in front of us. We had a few key goals: to get the absolute most out of the relatively limited space (1800 sq ft), yet also make it feel open and versatile. We wanted something that was modern, had clean, crisp lines and also felt warm and welcoming. We kept saying "scadanavian farmhouse". The result was something we love. HMH delivered on our vision and more. One of the things that we enjoyed most about working with HMH was the way they clearly stayed within the lines of our goals while simultaneously encouraging us to consider design elements that we would not have envisioned ourselves but that we ultimately totally love. For example, HMH designed a new metal staircase that was green - a real centerpiece for our home. Both the design and the color felt risky. But we trusted their direction and it is one of our favorite parts of our home. It is unique and beautiful and something different to what you typically see. We are so appreciative to HMH and the team for their willingness to create something spectacular, but also make beautiful design accessible to a young family. THANK YOU!

If I only had one word to describe the HMH team it would be AWESOME.
We have dreamed of building a mountain home for years. HMH helped us bring that dream to life. It is not too strong to say that we felt like they literally cared as much as they would if they were building it for themselves! Great architecture begins with creative talent, great relationships, and a clear focus.
After searching 3 years for an architectural firm that balanced strong aesthetics, good operational processes, & a hip/upbeat atmosphere, we were fortunate to find HMH and Harvey.
Our very first custom home was worked on at a distance. Harvey was always available thru emails, phone calls, site visits, and the HOUZZ app. He kept us on track with our artistic vision, value engineering, and practical solutions. His delightful sense of humor made the learning curve painless.
We only wish there were more houses to build, they would certainly be with HMH and Harvey!

HMH has been an exceptional leader in Boulder and Denver architecture for a long time. We've done many projects together for clients that come back to HMH again and again. HMH gives a lot of attention to every client and project, always striving for super-cool architecture with an approach that's practical and well managed. We work with their drawings and building models (you can tell a lot from someone's drafting...) and they take the time to get it right, leading everyone else on the design time with clarify and saving everyone time and cost.

I highly recommend Harvey and everyone at HMH. I am a local contractor who has built a few projects that HMH designed. The spaces looked incredible, the clients were really happy, and I had a great time working with Harvey and his team. Not only is he a talented designer, but he is also very knowledgable of the building process and has a really good sense of costs and how it relates to scope. Building a new home or renovating can be a stressful and personal experience but Harvey really helps his clients navigate through the process and makes it enjoyable! I think it's no mystery why they continue to create award winning spaces resulting in happy clients.

Harvey Hine designed a whole-house renovation of our 100-year old Victorian home in Boulder. His design was a brilliant combination of modern design principles with traditional design style. He opened up the house so that it is spacious, comfortable and light-filled, and provided us with living areas that we use every day. He combined the living room and dining room into a single useful space, opening through large windows to a Japanese garden. The design of the kitchen and the bathrooms are the best possible combination of tremendous beauty and perfect practicality. The new master bedroom suite has a balcony with fabulous mountain views. Harvey is a great listener. We recommend him in the highest possible terms to anyone who wants creative solutions to updating a historic home.

We love our new home! We had a great experience working with Harvey Hine & Cherie Goff at the team at HMH designing and building our new home in Boulder. We had a vision of our dream house for over a decade and they helped us realize that dream. The house integrates the indoor space with the outdoor space so that it feels spacious and a part of nature. The house has views that are incredible and well considered. There's so much to say about working with HMH that I am not doing it justice. Overall, we really enjoyed the whole process from start to finish and HMH was an integral part of this.

HMH has unmatched expertise in modern design. We felt completely confident hiring this firm to renovate our mid century modern home. The process was completely collaborative. As a team, they carefully considered our goals and design ideas and implemented them where appropriate. The firm was completely transparent, keeping our project and design elements within the targeted budget. HMH consistently kept our project moving within a reasonable timeframe. They effortlessly guided us from big picture design to the fine interior details. The team consulted with us regarding major structural/engineering issues. They resolved minor structural decisions behind the scenes so we could focus on the design.
HMH has a high quality network of resources for our appliances and finishes. Their use of the ArchiCAD program was extremely helpful in visualizing the design. It provided us with a 3D fly- through model of the design on our personal computer during all phases of the design. Also, having an in-house interior designer who closely works with the architects was a huge bonus.
Our general contractor, Ron Patryas, Live Modern, was an integral part of the overall project's success. Due to his high level of craftsmanship and knowledge of modern design he worked seamlessly with HMH.
From initial introduction through completion, the process was very professional and pleasurable.
