As architects, designers and human beings, we believe that the best design starts by understanding--and caring about--what matters to our clients. We listen. We learn. We welcome you into the creative process. The result is more than we could have imagined alone. And it's more fun, too. We bring experience to each project that is broad and deep. At the same time, we are experts at asking the right questions.
Rather than limiting ourselves to a particular style, we approach each project with open minds, a fresh eye, and avid curiosity. In the end, our projects look different because our clients are different. Having a hard time finding a local design firm that's just right for you? Thanks to new technologies, we are bringing our interactive, hands-on approach to a variety of projects across the United States.
From new homes to remodels, from theaters to churches, from Michigan to California, Montana and Washington, we work on great projects (with great people!) wherever they may be. Inspired by the hillside site and the owners' childhood memories, this family home was designed to feel like a walk in the woods.

Many firms focus on the 'what' of design.
We are equally interested in the who, why, and how.
That's why we built our practice around new ways to engage clients in the fun and creativity of the design process.
Through collaboration, design becomes meaningful, and the experience rewarding.
Connecting with clients' core values, experiences, and imagination helps us focus on the aspects of design that really matter.
Our studios in Seattle and Tahoe are brimming with models, materials, people, and ideas.

Here's a look at construction progress on Whidbey Island - cedar siding, stone work and windows are really bringing this project together!
A condominium remodel for a fun couple with eclectic taste in music and the most high-tech and unique finishes we've ever seen in a project!
A Seattle-area family wants to create a "home away from home" in eastern OR.
Located in the Brasada Ranch development outside of Bend, this house retains the open and airy feel of modern architecture while responding to the local ranch vernacular.

We knew when we started this project it was a very special house, but now after living in it for a month we KNOW it is incredible.
We are glad you guided us in creating something new that retains the integrity of what Roland Terry originally designed.
What a surprise to get a beautiful plant today and greetings from everyone at DeForest Architects.
It was so incredible to wake up here today, to look at the view as the sun came up, and to appreciate the homes design as we enjoyed our first cup of coffee in the house.
